Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 974 -- COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLES

CO-SPONSORS: Childers, Westfall (Koller)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Transportation by a vote of 19 to 0.

This bill allows the Chief Engineer of the Department of
Transportation to issue special permits to persons moving lumber
products and earth-moving equipment over 14 feet in width.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say regulations were changed several
years age to allow over-dimension widths up to 16 feet. However,
vehicles hauling lumber products and earth-moving equipment
remain restricted. The Department of Transportation would like
to be able to treat everyone the same.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Childers; Associated General
Contractors; and Department of Transportation

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
